Q: What kind of remote can I program?

A: You can program almost any remote control that uses infrared technology to send signals to the original equipment. The Universal Remote does not work with Bluetooth, laser, radio frequency, or other wireless technologies.

Q: Why won’t my existing remote work with the Universal Remote?

A: The most likely cause is that the Universal Remote was not programmed properly. See tips in the Troubleshooting section for programming a remote and be sure to follow instructions carefully.

Q: How do I program a button that doesn't exist on the Universal Remote App display?

A: You can program any button on your device remote to correspond to any button on the Universal Remote. For example, you could program a button called "HDMI1" to the "1" button on the Universal Remote.

Q: Will using the Universal Remote Case affect my battery life?

A: The case only draws power from iPhone when the remote function is in use, and will not significantly affect your overall battery life

Q: What happens when I get a phone call or different type of phone alert? Will it exit out of the application?

A: Yes. As with all apps, an incoming call will override the app.

Q: Can I program multiple devices, such as TV, DVD player, and cable box, under one new remote?

A: Yes. You can sync any button on the Universal Remote to any button on an infrared remote. For example, you could program the "channel up" and "channel down" buttons to change the channel on your cable box, and you could program the "volume up" "volume down" buttons to adjust the volume of a surround-sound system.

Q: What is the range of the IR transmitter?

Troubleshooting

iPhone doesn't fit in Universal Remote Case

  • The Universal Remote Case works only with iPhone 3G and iPhone GS models.

Universal Remote is not responding

  • Your iPhone battery might be low. Recharge your phone and try again.
  • Check to see that the blue LED on the Universal Remote lights up when a button is tapped. If the LED doesn't light up, data is not being transferred. Remove the iPhone from the case, reinsert it, and try again.
  • A button may not have been successfully programmed. Try reprogramming the button. During programming, check to see that the blue LED on the Universal Remote Case flashes. If not, remove the iPhone from the case, reinsert it, and try again. You might need to restart your iPhone.

Universal Remote does not work with my existing remote

  • The most likely cause is that the Universal Remote was not programmed properly. See tips in this section for programming a remote and be sure to follow instructions carefully.

Universal Remote won't save my programming changes

Make sure to follow the procedure for saving program changes. To program and save a remote:

  1. At the Universal Remote window, select an existing remote or set up a new remote.
  2. In the remote window, program buttons as desired and tap save.
  3. In the SAVED popup window, tap OK.
  4. In the remote window, tap back.
  5. At the Universal Remote window, select the remote that you just programmed.

Your changes will now be active in the remote.

Universal Remote won't learn properly

If you are having trouble programming the buttons, review these tips:

  • Buttons. Press the button on the Universal Remote once, then briefly press the button on the remote control. The blue LED on the Universal Remote will flash. Wait for the "Button Learned" message before programming another button.
  • Distance. The remote control device should be four to six inches from the Universal Remote during programming. If the signal is not being transferred, try placing the remotes one to two inches apart or at a 45-degree angle.
  • Batteries. Low batteries in your remote control device can send a weak or erratic infrared signal that can't be received. Install new batteries and try again.
  • Lighting. Sunlight and bright light can sometimes interfere with infrared signals used by the Universal Remote. Try programming in a dark or near-dark room.
  • Infrared sensor. Check the location of the infrared sensor on your remote control device. On some popular models, it is on the back of the device, not the front.
  • TV power. The Universal Remote can only learn the TV power button from the actual TV remote, not from another programmed universal remote controller.
  • Interference. Some high-end electronic equipment sends infrared signals back to the remote when a button is pressed, which can interfere with programming. To avoid interference, program the Universal Remote in a different room, away from the original equipment.
  • Reflection. Smooth, glossy, and glass surfaces can reflect infrared signals. Place the remote control and the Universal Remote on a matte or soft surface during programming.
  • Incompatible device. The Universal Remote works with infrared technology. If your remote control uses another technology, such as Bluetooth, it cannot be programmed. Also note that some manufacturers use proprietary codes that cannot be learned.

Wii™

Star Wars™ Light-Up Lightsabers

Q. I put the Wii™ remote into the handle, but my Lightsaber doesn't seem to work with the game.

A. Try one of these two solutions:

  1. Complete any game set-up steps with the remote outside of the Lightsaber handle. Once the gameplay includes a "duel with lightsabers" section, just insert the remote in the handle and play!
  2. You may need to adjust the settings on your Wii™ machine. To do this, go into the Wii™ Options Menu, choose Wii™ Settings, then select Sensor Bar and go to Sensitivity. Push the "+" button until it is on the highest sensitivity level. Make sure you have your sensor bar correctly set for above or below the screen in the Sensor Bar Position Menu.

Q. My Lightsaber™ doesn't light up.

A. The light-up feature uses 2 AAA batteries, which are not included. To install the batteries, use a small Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws in the battery compartment door on the back of the handle. Insert 2 AAA batteries. Replace the cover, replace screws, turn the switch to ON, and see the light!

Q. I put the two pieces of my Lightsaber™ together, but now I can't get them apart.

A. This product uses the POWER A "Twist and Lock" mechanism for safety and security. To separate the pieces, hold onto the upper part of the handle (near the light on/off switch) with your left hand. With your right hand, put your thumb on the front of the rotating ring and your forefinger wrapped around the back. Gently pull down on the ring and rotate to the left. With your left hand gently pull the blade away from the handle. To reconnect, simply, push the two pieces together until you hear a click – this engages the secure "Twist and Lock" feature again.

Q. What games can I use these with?

A. Although POWER A Light-Up Lightsabers can be used with a wide variety of games, they work best with Star Wars® The Clone Wars™: Lightsaber Duels™ (launched 11/08) and Star Wars® The Clone Wars™: Republic Heroes™ (launch 10/6/09).

Q. Can I buy replacement Lightsaber parts?

A. If you have a product issue, please email us or call POWER A Customer Support at 888-664-4327.

Clone Trooper™ Blaster

Q. The Wii Remote™ doesn't fit well in my Clone Trooper Blaster - what's wrong?

A. The Clone Trooper Blaster is made to perfectly fit a Wii Remote™ encased in a silicone jacket. A Nintendo Wii Remote™ Jacket is now standard equipment included in the package when you purchase a new Wii system. If you have an older Wii system, Nintendo will send you a free jacket if you provide your serial number.

Starting from the left side, slowly press down on the middle section of the Screen Protector until you reach the right side edge. Run your finger gently across the screen to work out any air bubbles. Finally, remove the top protective film.
